The Variables and Virtues of Mankind

Humanity's strength, and its weakness is one in the same. The artist knows this, for the artist lives in the midst of this threshold. It is at the crossroad where fortune or misfortune is decided. Yet the factors which shape our destiny are often elusive to the ordinary man.

Our religions tend to teach virtues, which are values that are intended to stay the same and ever unchanging. Such trains of thought can be compared to certain values in programming languages. Take for instance variables vs literals. The latter does not change. The former is a place holder for data which is subject to change. Both tools are valuable to the wise. But one must first be made wise. Wisdom, like compassion, however, is not necessarily one of man's greatest attributes on a wide playing field.

Speaking of change, it is the potential for improvement which is humanity's great strength... potentially. It is often the case, however, that our greatest strength is also our great weakness. For while we can consciously improve our conditions in life, unlike animals which must rely solely upon evolutionary components, we come into conflict with change when it is aimed toward progress simply for the sake of progress.

So, why bother with a distinction between progress and prosperity?

Simply, stated, progress does not shed a tear for the loss of prosperity. It feels nothing. It knows nothing. In ancient times we can take example of the great losses to great peoples who chose quick progress of some kind over prosperity.

At the fork in the road between prosperity and progress resides with us those who are insane, and while they appear to look as we do, they feel nothing for our species, nothing for humanity. It is these monsters who take advantage of our weak points, dressing up our weaknesses as strength, usually following through the group mindedness method().

This loophole for the wicked is why I state that our great strength is also our great weakness. Guidance is a continuous task. It is something like piloting a ship in rough waters for what seems a lifetime, whereby all humans must make consistent effort to maintain the stability of the vessel we are all riding on. Thus, responsibility is the first thing the insane monsters will try to unhinge from our awareness, and teach us instead to spit upon our values which have allowed us to survive hitherto. We are a gregarious species, and although this nature has held us together through the thick and thin of our time on this planet, our very strength is turned against us by the psychological predators among us.

We have always lived among monsters.

In the days of old the only way to address such burdens of the belittled man under the rule of tyrants was in the form of fairytales, and possibly other arts. As sensible and deep thinking, sophisticated human beings it is our duty to look at the history of our world, and understand ourselves independently of external and forceful  interpretation.

Think of what it must of been like, whether literally true or not, when mighty Hercules drove off the giants from now Greece, and sent their hordes fleeing to the northern realms of what is named Sweden. Consider the painful wars of the Irish who staved off the necromancers, the Druids, and the Danes in the early years of ancient Erin.

So. What are we now? Are we like the Spartans? Do we hold some kind of Troth true to our people's? Have we a kindred spirit at all? Or, are we merely the reprogrammable ever changing variables of our master control program?

Greetings, Program?

Life is very confusing. It is important to make the connection with that which has created you. Your source from which you came upon entering the world. Call this what you may.

This factor distinguishes you from those who are simply used or those who are soulless. Our great prosperity is our conscience, and our consciousness is a continuously developing component which links us directly back to our master and creator, whatever one wishes to name this source is not the issue. Strife and conflict arise from an anxiety to have absolute answers to an infinite and wondrous universe which is forever in a state of constant evolution.

We must become masterful rangers in this multiverse of thresholds, whereat all change must be measured for variable of progress against the literal of prosperity.
